Owners of Carpenter Beach Construction Purchase Loudoun Stairs

Purcellville-based Loudoun Stairs enters an exciting new chapter after being purchased by a group of local business owners with deep roots in Loudoun County.

Scott Carpenter, Charles Beach, Paul Ferrari and Benjamin Carpenter purchased Loudoun Stairs, with the sale officially closing on April 30.

Scott Carpenter and Charles Beach, lifelong Loudoun County residents, own Carpenter Beach Construction Company in Leesburg and Local Wood in Berryville. Ferrari is the owner of Ferrari Enterprises, a Northern Virginia painting contractor. Benjamin Carpenter serves as a project manager with Carpenter Beach Construction and assistant manager of The Branch, the family entertainment center in Leesburg.

The group has a history of investing in local businesses. In 2021, Ferrari, Scott Carpenter and Beach purchased Village Lanes Bowling Center in Leesburg, transformed the facility through extensive renovations and reopened it as The Branch. In 2024, Scott Carpenter, Beach and Benjamin Carpenter partnered with Jeff Trump to launch Premier Electrical Service, a full-service residential and commercial electrical contractor.

Now, they’re bringing that same local commitment to Loudoun Stairs.

Scott Carpenter said the new ownership team plans to preserve what has made the company successful by keeping its experienced employees, continuing to serve existing customers, building on its strong reputation, and expanding its customer base.

Brent Mercke founded Loudoun Stairs nearly 40 years ago, in 1987, at its current location off Maple Avenue in Purcellville. The company, which manufactures residential and commercial staircases and railings, grew alongside the booming Washington, D.C., housing market and at its peak employed more than 200 people, Carpenter said.

Carpenter said he is enthusiastic about adding Loudoun Stairs to the group’s growing portfolio of businesses.

“I’m very excited about this opportunity for a number of reasons,” he said. “First and foremost, the current employees are tremendous assets to the company and are largely responsible for its success. They are dedicated to producing a top-quality product and are customer-oriented.”

He also praised the company’s operations, saying the manufacturing facility is already run “efficiently and effectively.”

“We are fortunate to be able to step right in and not lose a beat in production,” Carpenter said.

The new owners also plan to lease unused indoor and outdoor space at the facility to businesses looking for storage.

Benjamin Carpenter said purchasing Loudoun Stairs represents an exciting opportunity to continue growing while staying true to the company’s longstanding values.
